Burning Regulations

 

During a fire ban, none of the burn regulations below are permitted.

No daytime burning between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. between April 1 to October 31.

All burning in Dysart (any time of the year) must be:

  • Limited to one fire, smaller than two (2) meters in diameter and must be attended at all times by a competent person with adequate equipment to extinguish the fire (this person responsible for any damages)

  • Away from combustible material, buildings, property lines and roadways by at least three (3) meters.

  • No noxious materials shall be burned.

Fireworks

The Municipality regulates the dates and permitted times for the setting off of Consumer Fireworks within Dysart et al. 

Fireworks are permitted on:

  • New Year’s Eve (December 31) from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.

  • Victoria Day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Holiday Monday) from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

  • Canada Day from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. (2022: you could light fireworks on Friday, July 1; Saturday, July 2; Sunday, July 3)

  • August Civic Holiday weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Holiday Monday) from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

  • Labour Day weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Holiday Monday) from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Local Landfills

There are five landfill sites in the Municipality of Dysart et al. Hours vary at each landfill site and with each season. The nearest site, West Bay Landfill, is located at 5409 Haliburton Lake Road, Fort Irwin

  • Valid Dysart et al Landfill Identification User Cards must be shown at the gate.

  • Short-term renters can purchase One-Time Landfill Passes if they are staying in the Municipality of Dysart et al.

  • Garbage must be placed in clear bags. Up to three (3) bags of garbage in clear bags accepted per week at no charge.

  • Recycling is mandatory and must be sorted into Containers and Papers.

  • You are required to pay disposal fees for dropping off certain items. Haliburton, Harcourt, and West Guilford Landfills accept payment by debit card, Visa, MasterCard, and American Express. Cash is NOT accepted.

  • Entering a landfill outside of regular operating hours is trespassing and may result in a fine.

  • Leaving waste outside of landfills is illegal dumping and may result in a fine.

Tree Preservation
 

Haliburton County embarked on a process to create a Shoreline Preservation By-law to further strengthen existing controls for waterfront development in the County.  This process resulted in the creation of a by-law that regulates the removal of trees and alteration of grades within 20 metres of the County's lakes, rivers and wetlands.
